Is there a leash law in Madison, Alabama?

    According to Alabama Statute 3-1-5, dogs in Madison County are required to be confined to the owner’s property unless they are under the supervision of the owner, however, no leash is required.

    If a person’s dog is running at large and unattended, a citizen may contact Madison County Animal Control at 532-1519, and the dog will be subject to impoundment. Owners are will be charged fines and redemptive fees to reclaim the dog.

    In addition, a citizen may file a complaint with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department at 722-7181 if a dog is destroying property.
